AAMC honors Bosom Buddies Charities by naming a street on the campus BOSOM BUDDIES WAY!
WHAT INSPIRES US!
The establishment of Bosom Buddies Charities, Inc., is the fulfillment of a long-time dream of Queen Anne’s County resident Susan Ponchock. After surviving the diagnosis of an aggressive type of breast cancer, the trauma of surgery and stem cell transplant, chemotherapy and radiation, Susan made a vow to “give back” by founding Bosom Buddies Charities.
This year Bosom Buddies Charities is celebrating its 14th anniversary. Over the past 14 years, through its fundraising efforts and the support of local business and individuals, we have raised over $2 million. Some of the programs we have been able to support include:
-
Proceeds from the 2020 Ball went to Anne Arundel Medical Center's Geaton & JoAnn Decesaris Cancer Institute and the Rebecca Fortney Breast Center Genetic Testing and Counseling Program. A grant was also made to the Clark Comprehensive Breast Center at the UM Memorial Hospital Foundation. Finally, funds were given to Leslie's Week, which is an organization that gifts vacations to Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer women and their families.
-
Donation of the digital mammography equipment to the Kent Island Breast Center.
-
Support a nurse navigator to help guide breast cancer patients through complex medical systems and negotiate through the barriers to care along the continuum
-
Completed our pledge to purchase Spy Elite equipment for the Breast Center at Anne Arundel Medical Center, which assesses the blood flow in newly transplanted tissue, allowing the surgeon to access real-time information and to modify plans before the patient leaves the operating room.
-
Funded a Faxitron System for the Shore Health Regional Breast Center; the system reduces procedure time in the operating room for breast biopsy and lumpectomy and minimizes the potential for re-excision.
Bosom Buddies Charities is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
